Mission of the role

We are seeking a Scientific Documentalist to manage the CRG digital collection of scientific publications and analyse the data to support the institute´s strategy.

The successful applicant will be responsible for the management and operations of the CRG digital documentary repositories of all publications by the centre. She/he will be part of the International and Scientific Affairs (ISA) team, and work closely with other CRG departments and scientific programmes to exploit the collected data and prepare reports on the scientific publications produced by CRG researchers. She/he will also advise the researchers on Open Access policy and ensure that all tools are in place to ensure compliance with funders’ requirements for scientific publications.

Tasks and activities

  • Work together with CRG scientists and pre-check their manuscripts before publication to ensure that affiliations and acknowledgments are properly addressed.
  • Give advice about Open Access requirements for publications before they are submitted to the editors/journals, taking into account the requirements of the publishers as well as of the funding agencies that have financed the study (in collaboration with the CRG Grants office).
  • Give advice to researchers on scientific publishing, including topics related to researchers’ identifiers, signatures, scholarly journals and metrics.
  • Manage and regularly update the CRG publications database and Open Access repository, to ensure the data is complete and accurate, and recommend any changes or updates in a timely manner.
  • Ensure quality and validate research output metadata records within the CRG publications database, including import of record from external sources.
  • Analyse and exploit the CRG scientific output to support the institute´s strategy.
  • Support the preparation of reports, projects and grants by providing information on the CRG scientific output.
  • Continuously explore new developments in open access, bibliometrics, and electronic document and scientific publication management.
  • Foresee and recommend database improvements so that the data collected is relevant and useful for other CRG departments.
  • Liaise with other research institutes to share best practice on scientific publication management, metrics and open access to publications and data.
  • Participate in organization of training activities and workshops on scientific publishing.

The Offer

  • Position: part-time position
  • Duration: one year (the position can be extended depending on the results achieved and successful awarding of future projects)
  • Estimated annual gross salary: a competitive salary will be provided adjusted according to experience

Requisitos

Studies:

  • Degree or Postgraduate studies in Documentation, Information Science, Statistics and/or Library Science.
  • Degree in biology, life sciences or related disciplines would be an additional asset.

Experience

  • Previous experience in digital content management, and information and knowledge management (preferably domain knowledge of scientific publications).
  • Ideal candidate should have some experience in research and/or academic environment.
  • Understanding of scientific publishing and familiarity with bibliographic services such as Web of Science, SCOPUS and PubMed.

Technical skills required:

  • Proficient IT skills (Excel, Power Point, content management systems, websites, databases).
  • Competence in digital content management, administering and updating database systems.
  • Familiarity with ORCID, ResearcherID, Scopus ID and other researcher’s identifiers is an added value.

Languages:

  • Excellent command of spoken and written English (essential) and Spanish (desirable).

  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills; ability to meet strict deadlines.
  • Excellent writing, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Reliability, rigor and initiative in the execution of the assigned work.
