Librarian in in the scientific information service (GS-SIS), working in close collaboration with the scientific information officers.

At CERN, the diversity of projects, ideas, theories is enormous. Collaboration is key to the success of the Organization’s scientific achievements, as is an effective information service which ensures timely accessibility to all the information scientists need to drive their research. The CERN Scientific Information Service operates the onsite Library and Archives and is responsible for the scientific content of the CERN Institutional Repository. The Library supplies services and highly specialised holdings: books, scientific journals and standards. These collections are available as physical media and increasingly in electronic form. In partnership with the CERN IT department, and teams at SLAC, Fermilab and DESY, the Scientific Information Service is building, and will soon be operating INSPIRE, a next-generation digital library for high-energy physics.

Functions: Reporting to the Head of Library Services, you will in particular: Take responsibility for a set of activities related to acquisition of books and journals and the interlibrary-loan service. Participate in quality assurance of the library catalogue metadata. Produce statistics of Library activities. Take on webmaster duties for the website http://library.cern.ch. Organize the desk shifts schedule and training of new staff.


Requisitos

Qualification required: Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, in library and information science or other related field.

Experience and competencies: The experience required for this post is: Relevant information resources, preferably in the field of physics. At least three years’ experience in a research or university library an asset.   The technical competencies required for this post are: Digital curation. Digitizing collections. Library and documentation management. Information content authoring.   The behavioural competencies required for this post are: Learning and sharing knowledge: sharing knowledge and expertise freely and willingly with others; coaching others to ensure knowledge transfer. Working in teams: building and maintaining constructive and effective work relationships. Solving problems: Being open to original ideas and creative options by which to address issues; continually driving change by seeking new ways to improve outcomes.Producing a range of innovative and workable solutions. Achieving results: Taking responsibility for achieving quality results. Working in a structured and efficient way. Driving work and projects to a successful outcome.   The language competencies required for this post are: Good knowledge of English or French and the ability to communicate in both written and oral forms and basic knowledge of the other language or an undertaking to acquire it rapidly.
